October 25, 1881: Picasso is Born
On this day in 1881, Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain who would later become one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Picasso produced an estimated 50,000 works ranging from paintings, drawings, engravings, sculptures and ceramics.
Along with Georges Braque, Picasso is credited as the creator of cubism which is an art style that embraces abstract structure and two-dimensionality of the canvas.
Check out Simon Schama’s “Power of Art” interactive guide of Guernica (1937), known as one of Picasso’s most famous works.
